Members of Honolulu’s historic Central Union Church founded Windward United Church of Christ (WUCC) in the 1956. Back then Kailua was one of Hawaii’s fastest growing family communities. As Kailua grew WUCC grew right with it. Soon we became a separate church operating with its own programs and ways of worship.
WUCC is known for its hospitality toward the community. Our spacious campus offers help and healing through the presence of recovery groups and counseling services. Hands-on help flows through our Thrift Shop and Free Food Distribution Ministry. Local businesses such as the Kama’aina Kids Aikahi Preschool, Aloha Yoga Kula, and Keiki Crescendo rent space on our campus at favorable commercial rates. In addition, we’re proud of our financial support to both local service organizations, such as the Samaritan Counseling Center, and worldwide UCC missions.

Aging with Grace
Our newest community outreach is to serve empty nesters, those entering the “second shift” of their lives. A weekly walking group is exploring Kawainui March, a contemplative circle is offering a new look at prayer, and classes and speakers have been engaged to address topics of interest to a mature audience. “Aging with Grace” is an exciting concept and one unique to the Windward side if not the island of Oahu. We welcome you to come along for the ride in this new effort! Call or write if you have any questions.
What We Believe
We believe that a religious experience based on grace and love has a good chance of making this world better.
We believe in a God that extends an extravagant welcome to all people. We thus welcome and affirm all people into our worship fellowship.
We believe we are called to live-out our faith by serving others.
If this way of thinking rings true to you, we hope you’ll join us!
No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.
Drawn together by the Holy Spirit, we are a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church, joining faith and action. In covenant with the church in all of its settings, we serve God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world as made manifest in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
–UCC Vision Statement
As members of the United Church of Christ (UCC) denomination we encourage our members to think for themselves.
Faith is a journey. The journey starts with you cultivating a relationship with God. Instead of providing our members with a strict set of doctrines to follow, we encourage them to think through and live out their own spiritual questions and come to a personal understanding of the relationship between faith and life.
United Church of Christ churches operate congregationally. That means each local church makes its own decisions, so connections with other UCC churches and support of the denomination are chosen by us, not mandated by governing hierarchy. We’re proud to be a part of the United Church of Christ denomination.
